Police conduct jubilee cleanout

The country’s 50th Independence Annivesary Celebration has started in earnest with police officers in the North arresting about 100 people, including illegal immigrants, in a night-time mission on Monday. With the golden jubilee slated for Sunday, regional police spokesperson Inspector Norah Chimwala disclosed that 31 people were rounded up in Mzuzu, 26 in Mzimba, 24 in Nkhata Bay, 25 in Chitipa and five illegal immigrants in Karonga.— JAMES CHAVULA, Staff Writer
