Police crash with Lilongwe residents ahead of APM rally

Tension is high in Lilongwe’s Mpingu and Msundwe Trading Centers where a police officer is reported to have been seriously injured in clashes between locals and the law enforcers.

Meanwhile the injured officer has been rushed to hospital in Lilongwe.

Nation Online crew witnessed ugly scenes of violent protesters who blocked Mchinji-Lilongwe road forcing road users especially DPP supporters from traveling to Lilongwe where President Peter Mutharika is expected to hold a rally in Kawale Township.

Police had to chase the rioters to nearby villages while firing teargas cannisters but the youthful protesters kept regrouping and fought back with Stones.

The situation is still volatile as law enfocers seem to have run out of teargas and are waiting for reinforcements.

The road remains impassable
