Police empower Kasungu communities

Listen to this article

Communities in Traditional Authority (T/A) Santhe in Kasungu District have commended Central East Region Police for empowering community policing structures in the area.

The sentiments come after Central East Region Police in December 2023 handed over reflector jackets to community policing structures.

The jackets were also handed over to community policing structures in T/As Kapelula, Wimbe, Chidzuma, Chaima, Kaomba, Lukwa and Mwase.

Speaking in a telephone interview yesterday, a community member James Chilungamo said community policing structures are crucial as they complement police’s efforts in fighting crime.

“For development to take place, we need security. Investors would not go to an area which is not safe for business,” he said.

Speaking in December when she presented reflector jackets to community policing structures in T/A Santhe in the district, Central East Region Police Commissioner Rhoda Manjolo said security is a catalyst of development.

She said she donated the reflector jackets after receiving complaints from the community policing forums when she visited the area.

She said: In November, I visited all traditional leaders in Kasungu District where I learned about their problems in terms of security.

“I went out to source the materials and I thought it wise to come back and give them to you myself.”

Manjolo assured chiefs that the police are committed to enforcing law and order in their areas.

She also drilled community policing members on their roles.

In their remarks, Senior Chief Santhe commended Manjolo for the tips and the donation.
