Police tip Mwanza, Neno communities on security

South West Region Police has asked residents from Mwanza and Neno districts to work together to combat crime and make the festive season safe for everyone.

On Wednesday, police officers in the region conducted a roadshow campaign in the two districts to disseminate security tips to the communities.

South West Region Police deputy spokesperson Beatrice Mikuwa said security was an important catalyst of development in any community.

She said: “As police, we are more ready to provide tight security during the festive season. We want to ensure that the festive season is crime-free.

“To achieve this, we have employed many strategies, including intensifying patrols day and night. We have also improved police visibility in residential areas, business and industrial places.”

Mikuwa encouraged residents in the two districts to make it their responsibility to minimise risks to their property and lives.

Arnold Luka Dzonzi, a community member from Traditional Authority (T/A) Kanduku in Mwanza, said he understood the role of citizens in crime prevention.

“We will cooperate with police to ensure security in our areas. I was one of the people who thought security issues are for the police only,” he said.

Another community member, Laston Gama from T/A Mlauli in Neno, said they learned a lot through the roadshow and pledged to report suspicious individuals and activities to police.

Malawi Police Service organised the roadshow in conjunction with Electricity Generation Company.
