Political aspirants urged to upgrade primary school
People in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwenewenya in Chitipa District have asked local government and parliamentary aspirants to construct school blocks at Chirambo Primary School.
In an interview on Friday, Chisenga Area Development Committee chairperson Fredrick Msachi said it was unfortunate that the school, which opened in 1995, has makeshift rooms accommodating four classes and a dilapidated block with two classrooms and one teacher’s house.

He said: “Over the past years, our elected leaders have failed to uplift the face of the school to make it attractive to learners and teachers. Our previous elected leaders have failed us; hence, the call that this time around, we want development-conscious leaders that are committed to deliver.
“As community leaders, we are always ready with the 25 percent contribution of building materials towards any development in this area.”
However, in a separate interview, Chitipa Wenya former legislator Davies Ng’ambi said during his tenure he renovated the school block and he is also constructing two teachers’ houses.
On his part, UTM Party shadow candidate Moses Mulenga said his first priority will be to engage local leaders on how best to tackle such challenges, saying schools in the constituency are in bad shape.
Taking his turn, Malawi Congress Party aspiring candidate Reuben Pwele said he is the solution to such challenges as he has already started rehabilitating the road to the school
“I have started doing development work in the constituency, including rehabilitating the road that leads to this school,” he said.
In a separate interview, Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace of Karonga Diocese field officer Moses Mwakisalu described the situation as pathetic.
“It is retrogressive to have such structures in schools in the 21st century. Structures of that nature violate principles of education justice,” he said.
