Power cut off at Kamuzu Stadium

Ministry of Youth and Sports is pushing for the reconnection of power at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre in the countdown to Saturday’s TNM Super League clash between FCB Nyasa Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

Power was disconnected at the facility last week due to a K3.5 million outstanding bill owed to power supplier  Electricity  Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom).

Among others, lack of power would affect broadcasting of the match, public address system and lighting in the dressing rooms.

Mwale: It is due to system challenges

The ministry’s spokesperson Macmillan Mwale confirmed the disconnection in an interview yesterday.

He said: “Indeed electricity was disconnected last week due to an accrued bill of K3.5 million.

“This has happened due to challenges we are currently experiencing with our payment system.

“The ministry is currently working closely with stadium management to ensure that power is reconnected as soon as possible.”

Mwale also acknowledged that lack of power would affect some key areas, “but as I have said, we are trying to address the issue the soonest”.
