PP has failed—Henry Mussa

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has called on people in Mzimba to rally behind the party during the forthcoming by-election, saying the People’s Party (PP) led government has failed.

DPP treasurer general Henry Mussa said this last week when he launched the party’s campaign at Kapiri Primary School and Mtuzuzu community ground ahead of the October 9 by-elections.

Mussa said DPP remain the only party that could turn around the country’s fragile economy, which he said the PP-led government has failed to resuscitate.

He called on the people to vote for DPP candidates in both Mzimba Central and Mzimba South West constituencies.

Mussa said the PP-led government has failed to tame the effects of devaluation, which has led to escalating food and commodity prices.

“Government devalued the kwacha without first putting in place bailout packages that would cushion the effects of the devaluation,” he said.

He said DPP backs Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) executive director John Kapito’s calls for government to step down if it cannot find solutions to economic problems the country is facing.

Owen Mkandawire will represent the party in Mzimba Central whereas Lonald Chavula will contest Mzimba South West Constituency.

During the launch, Mussa donated blankets and party clothes to be distributed to the aged and needy.
