PS calls for one voice at CoP30
Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change Yusuf Mkungula, has urged Malawi’s delegation to the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (CoP30) in Brazil to be organised and speak with one voice.
He made the call on Friday at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe during the second national stakeholders’ preparatory meeting ahead of the summit scheduled for November 10 to 21 2025 in Belém, Brazil.

Mkungula said Malawi’s participation at CoP30 is vital for advancing its climate agenda.
“As a climate-vulnerable country, Malawi must ensure that its priorities on finance, adaptation, loss and damage, energy transition, and nature-based solutions are clearly heard,” he said.
Mkungula encouraged stakeholders to approach the summit with a clear understanding of the country’s climate challenges, gaps, and priorities to strengthen Malawi’s voice in negotiations and bilateral engagements.
UNDP’s resilience and sustainable growth portfolio manager Rabi Gaudo commended Malawi’s leadership in coordinating national climate action.
“This preparatory meeting is key to ensuring Malawi enters COP30 with a unified and impactful voice,” he said.
Gaudo highlighted that climate change continues to undermine Malawi’s development gains.
“Frequent droughts, floods, and unpredictable rainfall patterns are worsening food insecurity and inequality,” he said.
Gaudo stressed the importance of turning climate commitments into action through inclusive and innovative solutions that leave no one behind.
Stakeholders agreed that COP30 represents a critical milestone for Malawi as it seeks to align
its revised nationally determined contributions with both national realities and global climate targets.
