‘Public officers interfere with projects implementation’
Area Development Committee (ADC) members in Kasungu expressed dissatisfaction with some public officers who interfere in development activities.
Kaphaizi Area Development Committee (ADC) members in Kasungu have expressed dissatisfaction with public officers’ style of handling development activities.
Speaking on Thursday during a training of ADCs, Kaphaizi ADC member Abraham Banda alleged that some public officers exert unnecessary pressure on local structures on how to handle particular projects.
He said: “We thank the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace [CCJP] for training ADC members on their roles.
“However, we fail to execute the roles because some public officers interference during project implementation.”
In response, Kasungu district community development officer Bernard Chanachi said it was disappointing that some public officers take advantage of such committees to achieve their goals.
“The reason we train development committees before implementing projects is to empower them to execute their duties properly and overcome anything that interferes with their implementation,” he said.
On his part, CCJP Kasungu district coordinator Hastings Kalima said they train ADC members to know their role in project implementation.
“We realised that there is knowledge gap among ADC members on their roles; hence, the training,” he said.
CCJP is implementing a Good Governance Project in Lilongwe and Kasungu with funding from Open Society Institute for Southern Africa
