Church of Christ on Wednesday donated 10 wheelchairs to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre.

The wheelchairs are valued at K850 000 and have since been assigned to the Adult Emergency Trauma Centre (AETC) and cancer ward.

Secretary of the church’s Ginnery Corner Branch Gary Jumbe said the donation was in response to calls for support from Chira Fund—a charity organisation working within the hospital.

He said his church was pleased to contribute towards providing quality healthcare services in the country.

QECH principal nursing officer Feggie Bodole said health workers were facing challenges in managing critically injured or sick patients because of inadequate wheelchairs.

“We sometimes carry patients and this is not healthy. It also a risk to workers,” said Bodole.
