They might be new in the industry. But, thus far, they have proved to be a reliable events production and promotion company in Malawi.

Their shows have been on point and better organised for the ever growing Malawi entertainment enthusiasts. Simply put, they are the palatable food for those hungry fun lovers who, for some time, have been feeding on nothing, but lies of some event organisers.

Not only is the organisation of most local shows shambolic, but the event itself leaves a lot to be desired.

But recently, Malawi has tasted the enchanting feeling of  professional events promotion courtesy of a production company, Qoncept Creative.

Qoncept Creative aims at promoting different art like poetry, comedy, music through event production and management, among others.

Launched on April 20 at Capital Hotel with the Lawi and Faith Mussa show, Qoncept Creative did not disappoint as the event was professionally organised and gave patrons a glimpse of things to come.

And their hopes were not without foundation. The second show was a killer.

The firm brought to Malawi Uganda’s queen of comedy Annie Kansiime who thrilled the audience that jam packed the 3 000-seater Bingu International Conference Centre.

If the trend taken and set by the Qoncept Creative is anything to go by, then Malawi is heading into the right direction in terms of events organisation as it brings an unforgettable experience through uncompromising professionalism, sophistication and quality.

Registered in January, Qoncept Creative is a family business of a youthful couple that are not strangers.

Qoncept Creative is owned by Qabaniso Malewezi and his wife Bridget.

“I am the creative director and Bridget is managing director. Our mission is to be the most efficient, versatile and dependable indigenous event production company in Malawi,” says Qabaniso, an accomplished poet, music producer and performer.

The hands-on experience that Q acquired in the organisation of some of Malawi’s most prestigious events, including the annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz which featured global jazz icon Earl Klugh in 2013 and South African sensation Zahara in 2012 as well as the Presidents of Laughrica Stand-Up Comedy shows that featured Africa’s top comedians from 2011 to 2013, gave birth to Qoncept Creative.

“After producing a number of events like Presidents of Laughrica and Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, I decided to no longer work as an individual, but an entity so we founded the company with the aim of producing quality events for Malawian artists and also invite international acts to the country,” he explains.

Q says they have a way of doing things that remain unique for people.

Explains the artist: “Qoncept Creative has a way of doing things. We are doing our best to creatively present our events and provide a different programming format. We want to develop an audience that appreciates quality art and entertainment by starting all our events on the time as advertised. This might take a while as sometimes things happen outside our control. However, our events will always have that unique aspect that you will call a Qoncept Creative thing”.

So far, the firm has started with music concerts and comedy events, but different other events are on the way.

“We will get into other forms of art and entertainment as long as the adhere to our brand philosophy. Meanwhile, we have invited Oliver Mtukudzi for a concert in August and we are still in the process of finalising details. The event will only have advance tickets as a way of minimising confusion and congestion,” says Q.

He adds: “We are planning on a calendar for the rest of the year and are really excited with some of the artists we are talking to both local and international. We should have a couple of them visiting. We will put out the calendar of events on our website and electronic newsletter once we confirm all the acts”.

And for all fun lovers, Qoncept Creative has one promise: “People should look out for more local talent with international standards of performance on our stages. That is what I am looking forward to more.”
