Malawi netball Queens have maintained their Africa top spot and the world’s fifth place in the first post-2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games rankings released on August 27 2014.

The Queens coach Mary Waya on Tuesday reserved her reaction to the updated rankings, saying she needed to consult the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) on the team’s calendar of events.

However, while in Glasgow where the Queens lost to highly ranked New Zealand and Australia and won against Saint Lucia, Scotland, Northern Ireland and rivals South Africa, Waya bemoaned lack of enough test matches against the netball giants.

The latest International Netball Federation (INF) world ranking, which takes into account the Commonwealth Games, shows Australia who won gold ahead of New Zealand in the ratings.

“Also in the top six, Jamaica’s bronze medal win over England reduces the gap between England in third and Jamaica in fourth place, and fifth place Malawi widens it’s gap over South Africa in sixth place,” reads the www.inf.org

Further down the rankings, Northern Ireland nudge ahead of Scotland again to be ranked 11, after taking seventh place at the Games. Saint Lucia have fallen from 18th to 20th place, with Singapore taking their place, and Canada moving up to 19.
