Register to vote, says M’Mbelwa V

Paramount Chief M’Mbelwa V of the Jere Ngoni has urged people in the Northern Region to register in large numbers to vote in the September 16 2025 General Elections.

He said this on Saturday during a cultural gathering in Traditional Authority Jalavikuba in Mzimba District.

M’Mbelwa said registration was an important step during electoral processes; hence, the need for people to register.

“Therefore, let me advise traditional and religious leaders to take advantage of various gatherings to encourage people to register,” he said.

The chief also advised people who are expected to benefit from Affordable Inputs Programme not to sell their coupons.

Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe of Rumphi District commended M’Mbelwa V for availing himself to his people during cultural and other events.

“We will also extend invitations to fellow paramount chiefs to patronise cultural events in our communities. We are one people and the district boundaries are artificial,” he said.

A community member from T/A Jalavikuwa Wongani Mhango thanked the Jere Ngoni paramount chief for encouraging people to register to vote.

“When the registration exercise comes to Mzimba, we will register in large numbers,” he said.

Malawi Electoral Commission launched the first phase of registration exercise on October 21 2024 which will run up to November 2 2024.

In the Northern Region, the registration exercise is taking place in Chitipa, Karonga and Mzuzu City
