A report by the United States government has detailed countries where people trafficked from Malawi are taken to.

The report has also faulted Malawi for failing to meet minimum requirements in stopping human trafficking.

Reads the report in part: “Nigerian and Tanzanian women force Malawian women and girls into prostitution in Malawi and Nigerian syndicates are also involved in the sex trafficking of Malawians to South Africa, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Thailand and Brazil.”

The report further says Malawi is a source of men, women and children subjected to forced labour and sex trafficking. To a lesser extent, it is also a destination country for men, women and children from Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania and a transit point for people from these countries who are subjected to sex and labour trafficking in South Africa.

“Most Malawian trafficking victims are exploited within the country, though Malawian victims of sex and labour trafficking have also been identified in South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Europe,” further reads the report.

The report has also warned that despite making strides in tackling human trafficking, government is failing to meet minimum standards in tackling the issue.

Minister of Information and Civic Education Moses Kunkuyu said: “It has taken a bit of time for many people to understand and report various forms of human trafficking which would help a lot in the elimination of human trafficking, but now there are more efforts being made because of the increased knowledge of the various forms of human trafficking. The report also recognises this fact.”

  1. Why I am not surprised that Nigerians are involved in this and yet Malawians seem to be blinded by these guys. My peace of advice is stay far away from these folks and every Nigerian that is in Malawi needs to be scrutinized and if not worthy to be in Malawi has to go
