Reserve Bank pumps K820m in Silver Strikers
The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has invested K820 million in the Silver Strikers Football Clubs both men’s and women’s.
Both RBM Deputy Governor Dr MacDonald Mafuta Mwale and Silver Strikers Football Club board chairperson George Kaudza Masina confirmed on Friday in Lilongwe during the K65 million Betway shirt sponsorship unveiling
Mafuta Mwale has since commended the club on working towards financial independence.
He said: “I have to commend Silver board and secretariat on honouring what we have been preaching and advocating
for as sponsors. This is not mean achievement as we are professionalising the club. In the past when I was chairperson of this club, we tried many times the commercialisation drive but it was difficult
“But you have achieved this and you are in the right trajectory and as sponsors we are proud.”
Mafuta Mwale has since applauded Betway for making the right decision.
“Your choice is not wrong. Silver is the most stable team in the country. We are on the right trajectory and to move with you in this trajectory we can enhance our position. Your name will not be tarnished by our team. In a nutshell I am want to encourage our supporters to be part of the process and must buy the replicas,” he said.
Betway chief operating officer Charles Phiri described the partnership as a new chapter in the history of Silver Strikers
He said: “We are delighted to partner Silver. Since we established our company in the country last year, our mission has been to give back to society. Through this partnership we are doing just that. We are making significant investment in football through this partnership and collaboration with Silver Strikers. We believe together we will turn another chapter in the history of Silver Strikers,” he said.
On his party, Kaudza Masina described the occasion as a special moment.
“We were mandated by the Reserve Bank of Malawi to turn the club into a profit making entity through establishment of partnership with the corporate world. With this sponsorship it means we are moving in the right direction,” he said.
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has since applauded Betway for the shirt sponsorship.
“Betway has come through to reform and rebrand in alignment with Sulom motto. This is against a volatile economic outlook but you have come through. I encourage Silver to safeguard this sponsorship by, among other things, winning trophies and also not engage in violent acts.” said Sulom executive member William Nhlane.
Betway chief operating officer Charles Phiri said the partnership is part of the company’s contribution to the development of sports in Malawi
Kick-starting the replicas jersey sells and setting the pace for supporters, RBMi governor Dr Wilson Banda bought a Betway Silver Strikers shirt at K1 million.
Mafuta Mwale, who represented the governor, bought the replica at K500 000
