Rotary Club of Limbe, partner support 600 MJ displaced families

The Rotary Club of Limbe in partnership with Khalsa Aid International on Wednesday supported 600 displaced families with relief items in Mulanje District.

The victims which were affected by Tropical Storm Ana received various items including plastic sheets, soya pieces, maize flour, beans, cooking oil, salt, soap, maize seed, Likuni Phala and blankets.

Speaking in an interview after the handover ceremony, Rotary Club past district governor Peter Nkosi said displaced families are in need of assistance to build up resilience.

He said: “The items we have brought will help the families to repair their homes at the same time have something to eat.

“We thank our partner, Khalsa Aid International who has been working with us in responding to different disasters to ease the suffering of the affected communities.”

Khalsa Aid International representative Sukhraj Singh said the organization has been assisting communities since 2015 in water and sanitation, disaster relief and menstrual hygiene.

“Our Sikhi religion recognizes everyone when is in pain. This donation will assist 600 households in this area to get back to their feet,” he said.

In her remarks, relief and rehabilitation officer for Mulanje District Council Maria Joseph thanked the two organizations for the timely donation.

“We still ask for more well-wishers to join hands with us in assisting families with plastics sheets that will be used to build their home,” she said

Polina Masangwa, one of the victims said the relief items will help her family to have something to eat for some days.
