Rotary Club, Round Table partner to save lives through blood donation
The Rotary Club of Blantyre, in partnership with Round Table Blantyre 20, conducted a blood donation drive last week at the Glasshouse Sustainability Center in Blantyre.
The initiative, aimed at boosting the country’s critical blood reserves, drew in dozens of donors from various parts of the city, including students, professionals, and community members who heeded the call to save lives.

Speaking during the event, Rotary Club of Blantyre President Thomas Ny’angwa said the collaboration with Round Table Blantyre 20 was part of their broader mission to address pressing health needs in the country.
“Blood is a precious resource, and the need for it is constant in hospitals across Malawi. This initiative is our way of giving back to the community and contributing to saving lives,” he said.
Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) assistant public relations office Christina Kilowe expressed gratitude to the organisers, noting that voluntary donations such as these are vital in meeting the country’s healthcare demands.

“The country continues to face a critical need for blood, particularly during this period when schools are writing examinations. Secondary school students, who make up the largest group of regular blood donors, are unavailable at this time. As a result, blood banks enter a lean period marked by shortages, prompting regular appeals to other stakeholders and the general public to step in and help.”
Round Table Blantyre 20 Chairperson, Kazione Kulisewa, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in tackling national health challenges.
“Our partnership with the Rotary Club reflects a shared commitment to humanitarian service. We are proud to be part of this cause and look forward to more joint initiatives,” he said.
