Rotary Club of Bwaila has organised a fun run tomorrow to raise funds for the purchase of medical equipment at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe.

The run will take place from Area 6 between the Mchinji Road and Paul Kagame Hoghway roundabouts.

The fun run is an annual event that Rotary Club of Bwaila conducts to raise money for KCH and other health institutions.

According to Rotary Club of Bwaila president Vijay Mittal, this year’s event seeks to raise K18 million.

He said in August last year they met KCH management where they were given the hospital’s needs.

KCH chief hospital administrator, a Mr. S. Nyasulu, said one of the needs of the hospital is a bronchoscope which is used to remove foreign bodies from the respiratory system.  The machine is worth K8 million.

KCH also needs a ultrasound machine, including its accessories and a defibrillator.

“This year we would like to raise over K18 million locally and procure a bronchoscope, defibrillator and a ultrasound machine plus accessories for various uses at the hospital. We are seeking contributions towards this worthy cause,” said Mittal.

The club president said a corporate sponsor, who will support the cause, will be allowed to enter a team of up to five runners and erect a stand for displaying the company’s goods or services along the route.
