Rumphi Ifmis building ready September
The new Integrated Financial Management Information System (Ifmis) building at Rumphi District Council is set to be completed by September 30 2024, according to authorities.
Rumphi District Council director of planning and development Frank Mfune described the progress as good, adding that the quality of construction works is impressive.
He said while the project’s duration is 120 days, it is being implemented across two financial years—2023/24 and 2024/25—due to limited funds.
Said Mfune: “Rumphi District’s annual development fund is lower than the project’s cost: hence, the works spreading over two financial years.
“The project is at the finishing stage, with the contractor working on wiring and ceilings.”
The building is designed to provide a secure and conducive environment for Ifmis equipment as well as a better working space for district council officers.
In addition to housing Ifmis, the structure will also accommodate the council’s finance and accounting personnel, consolidating them under one roof—a move Mfune believes will enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
James Harawa, a resident at Rumphi Boma, said the building will not only enhance efficiency in the council’s operations, but also add ambience to the town.
He said: “We need many buildings of such standard to make Rumphi attractive. I thank the council for funding the project.
“I also appeal to contractors of other projects to do quality works.”
The project, which began in November 2023, is funded by the District Development Fund to the tune of K159 million.
