Sad goodbye to NPL editor

The mood was sombre. The dirges were not good enough to comfort Nation Publications Limited (NPL) and the bereaved family, as they have lost one of their own.

It was a sorrowful, but befitting farewell to NPL Nation Online editor Elizabeth Lisuntha Banda, a professional who, all in their eulogies, the speakers on Sunday described as strong, warm-hearted, calm, selfless, the list was endless.

Many could not contain themselves but shed a tear, as ‘Liz B’, as she was fondly called at NPL, was in good health.

She cracked jokes with some of her colleagues prior to the fateful hour. So they felt cheated and robbed of a rare gem and her death was so shocking, emphasised the speakers.

Since she joined NPL 13 years ago, Liz served in different positions and rose to be the first female current news editor of The Nation and then Nation Online.

At exactly 16:15 hours, her remains were interred at Swambala Village, group Village Chipekwe, in Senior Chief Kaomba, Kasungu, leaving a legacy that NPL and the Banda families will forever cherish.

“We celebrate her life on earth for she was one of us. Liz B was a selfless, warm-hearted and calm character whose skills benefited NPL over the years,” mourned NPL’s deputy chief executive officer Alfred Ntonga.

Survived by a daughter Yanjanani, Liz B, 38, died suddenly on Friday afternoon at Chitawira Private Hospital after collapsing at home.
