Sailesi wins TNM Malawi Open

Renowned golfer Adam Sailesi was on Saturday crowned TNM Malawi Open Golf champion after outsmarting a field of 142 golfers at Lilongwe Golf Club.

This was the second time within five years for Sailesi to win Malawi’s most prestigious tournament that draws the cream of golfers from across the country.

Lilongwe-based Sailesi scored 152 points followed by Mike Kilner who amassed 57 points wheras Daniel Phiri came third with 161 points.

In Division A, Thakor Sanjay emerged winner with 165 points, Brian Coombes came second with 168 whereas Clement Chilungulo finished third with 169 points.

Hassy Hamdan emerged winner in Division B on 177 points, D Gill claimed second position with 179 points and Moses Limuwa came third with 182 points.

On the first day, Mike Kilner had the longest drive and the nearest to the pin while on the second day, deputy army commander (operations) Lieutenant General John Msonthi Junior had the longest drive and Colonel George Jaffu was nearest to the pin.

Sailesi got a BlackBerry Bold 9900 valued at K210 000 (about $525) and a trophy for his feat.

“It feels great to win the TNM Malawi Open as it attracts top golfers on the land. I did not have pressure; I just enjoyed my game,” said Sailesi.

He dedicated the win to his sponsor Andre Barron.

TNM head of commercial Charles Kamoto appreciated the huge turnout.
