People in Traditional Authority Kaphuka in Dedza District have expressed excitement with the construction of a K58 million classroom block at Katongole Primary School.

Speaking on behalf of the communities on Saturday during the handover, Dedza Central legislator Willard Gwengwe (Malawi Congress Party) said the new classroom block will motivate learners to remain in school.

He thanked Dedza District Council for constructing the facility using Governance to Enable Service Delivery (Gesd) funds.

“I ask the learners to be exemplary and work hard to become productive citizens in future,” said Gwengwe.

“We learned that some parents and guardians were not sending their children to school because of lack of learning facilities,” she said.

Dedza District Council chief education officer Julius Kamwaza said learning space is one of the issues the Ministry of Education is grappling with.

“We hope the school block with contribute towards improving education in Mwenje area. As a council, we are satisfied with the quality of the structure. Therefore, I ask the community to take care of the structure,” he said.

Standard Seven learner Mphatso Evason said the school block will create a conducive learning environment.

“It will be exciting for learners to get their lessons in a good structure,” she said.
