Scorchers complete Lesotho rout
Scorchers yesterday completed a two-game rout of visitors Lesotho with a successive 3-0 thrashing in their second international friendly match at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.
Asimenye Simwaka’s hat-trick ensured that the Malawi Women’s National Football Team secured an aggregate 6-0 victory as they also triumphed 3-0 in their first meeting on Friday played at the same venue.

Simwaka, who is also an oustanding short-distance runner, was a marvel to watch as she effortlessly scored for fun to take her tally to five goals in two games.
She also hit a brace in the first match.
The latest result means the Scorchers have so far notched 40 goals, but conceded none in three home international friendlies as they registered a 17-0 victory against Seychelles in two games at the same venue in September 2023.
Yesterday, the game appeared a balanced affair until in additional time of the first half when Simwaka broke the deadlock with a fantastic finish just before the referee blew the whistle for the end of the first half.
She doubled the scores in the 71st minute after heading home a well-curved cross from Sabina Thom in the box.
This came barely five minutes after her other goal in similar fashion was ruled out for offside.
Simwaka was at it again in the 74th minute when she completed her hat-trick with another header. Defender Ireen Khumalo provided the assist.
“I am satisfied with the way we played in both matches. With an attacking mind, we are good enough to achieve success and that is what is important in our Wafcon campaign,” said Scorchers’ coach Lovemore Fazili.
Scorchers are using the friendly matches to tune up for the CAF Women’s African Cup of Nations (Wafcon) second round qualifier against Angola in October.
Musician Jetu, who did the theme song ‘Pangolin’ for the women’s football under the auspices of team sponsors National Bank of Malawi, performed at half-time break.
