Senior Chief Mwaulambya calls for upholding of cultural values

Senior Chief Mwaulambya of Chitipa has called for the need for the youths to uphold cultural values to sustain their identity.

The chief made the appeal at Chinunkha in Chitipa District on Saturday during Bulambya Cultural Festival commemorated under the theme ‘Child safeguarding is our responsibility’.

Said Mwaulambya: “There is need to uphold cultural values because when our children grow, they need to have identity.

“In line with this year’s theme,  I appeal to parents to take care of their children and send them to school to enable them have a bright future.”

He also called on traditional leaders in the country and beyond to love one another andrefrain from chieftaincy wrangles.  

Bulambya Cultural Heritage chairperson Penson Kilembe said the festival serves as a catalyst for addressing childhood challenges, including cultural disconnection and social isolation by providing a platform for cultural expression, community engagement and youth empowerment.

“This event is important to the people of Chitipa as it brings unity, identity and traditional values,” he said.

Chitipa District Council director of administration Clement Gonthi commended the celebration.

He encouraged the Lambya to continue celebrating their culture and preserve their values to promote peace, love and eradicate poverty and hate.

“As we are growing old, we need to plant cultural values in our children. If we do that, they are going to respect and show love to people,” said Gonthi.

Some of the people that attended the festival included Chief Mwenechifungwe from Tendere and Isoka district commissioner Jailos Simbeye from Zambia and Senior Chief Katumbi who represented Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe from Rumphi.

This is the second festival celebration after last year’s.
