Set yourself up to achieve in 2015

Listen to this article

Beyond deciding goals, resolutions or guiding word for the year, plan to make things work and the starting point is to begin with the end in mind. Here are some suggestions for putting legs on what you want to achieve in 2015.

Decide your focus and desired results: Develop your plan based on these. Without that, things can spiral out of control quickly or fizzle out as you might have too many things going on and not enough time or effort to go round everything. Whatever you decide to focus on, make sure you can put both your head and heart to it. Don’t just go through the motions.

Drive value in all you do: Because it’s your best chance to inch towards your end goals. Don’t get complacent that your output starts tapering off. Do only what you feel you can, but also what you can push yourself to do. Be intentional with your time and efforts. Ensure you are not allowing yourself to ‘level off’ or go stale.

Deal with what compromises your form: You can’t do your best if you are not in the best shape especially mentally. Sometimes things can come together to make you feel less able than you are. Resist the temptation to ‘stew’ in that kind of feeling. Assert yourself. Do what you know you couldn’t do. Keep checking that you are not inadvertently leaving things to slide.

Invest in a coach or mentor: Someone to work with you to create the results you want. Don’t struggle to pursue your goals when you can get help, even if you have to pay for it. You could also get high quality coaching and mentoring by belonging to or surrounding yourself with a small community of high achievers you can learn from.

Now take action: Make an action plan for what you want to achieve in 2015.
