Sex worker arrested for neglecting her child
Kanengo Police Station in Lilongwe has arrested a woman for allegedly abandoning her four-year-old daughter.
According to Kanengo Police Station spokesperson Laban Makalani, the suspect, Rosina Deborah Josita, who is a commercial sex worker, had been locking up her daughter whenever going out at night for her sex work.
Makalani said Josita’s neighbours discovered that the child was mistreated and some men were taking advantage of her mother’s absence to defile her.
“People observed that the victim was discharging some white stuff that was mixed with blood. The matter was reported to Nsungwi Police Unit where officers referred the girl to hospital for check-up and it was confirmed that she was defiled,” said Makalani.
The police arrested Josita and charged her with a child neglect offence and have also opened a case of defilement against the unknown person.
Josita, who comes from Bawi Village in Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu, will appear before court soon. n
