Silver accused of negligence

Former Silver Strikers FC defender Panganeni Ndovie has accused his former club of refusing to pay medical debt to Beit Cure Hospital over the injury he sustained while on club duty, in the 2012-13 seasons.

In an exclusive with The Nation, Panganeni said that he had to shoulder over K900 000 himself while Silver paid only K150 000.

“I have really been mistreated. If it were that I was not employed anywhere, I do not think the injury could have healed. I gave everything to that club and to be treated this way is not fair. The club failed me,” said Ndovie.

Ndovie who is working as district Aids Coordinator for Dedza, is playing football for Dedza Young Stars just to gain fitness but he is surely set for Super League football.

But Silver claimed they spent K600 000 on Ndovie injury and have since accused the player of not being grateful.

In an interview on Tuesday, Silver treasurer Fred Kalonga said Ndovie had to be treated twice at Beit Cure because of his complex injury.

“We sent him there for the first treatment and we paid K600 000. But then the injury failed to heal and he had to go again for the second treatment. Since the fees were too exorbitant we asked him if he was on Masm, scheme so that we can share the expenses. He agreed and the second time he was treated through his Masm subscription. What we did was to top up. It is unfortunate that now he is accusing us of negligence,” said Kalonga.

He said the amount of money they spent on Ndovie is more than K600 000.

“Apart from Beit Cure, we also used to pay his bills at the African Bible College (ABC) clinic. We did take care of him in almost every way to ease his injury,” said Kalonga.
