Lawn tennis whiz-kid Chisomo Lumeta’s sheer quality on the court has been noticed as he has secured a two-year sponsorship deal with Nedbank.

According to Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (Ltam) general secretary Golden Banda, all the details pertaining to the sponsorship package will be unveiled at a special ceremony slated for this afternoon in Blantyre.

“Nedbank has committed to sponsor Chisomo until he turns 18 and that translates to two years because he turned 16 last month.

“Obviously, we are happy for the boy,” said Banda yesterday.

However, Lumeta will not attend today’s function as he is at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Training Centre in Morocco where he is on a scholarship.

The lawn tennis boy wonder is currently ranked second in Africa in the junior boys’ section and 393 in the world out of over 2 000 ranked players.

His achievements, so far, include winning the 2009 Southern Africa Junior Circuit Championship that earned him the scholarship. He also won gold in a similar tournament held in Botswana in January this year.

And just last week, he won a silver medal during the Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa (Anoca) Youth Championship games held in Botswana.
