Silver Strikers executive committee has moved in to nip in the bud a recurrence of ill-discipline which is believed to have contributed to the Bankers’ poor Southern Region outing last weekend.

After a post-mortem of 1-0 defeats to Evirom and Red Lions on Saturday and Sunday respectively, Silver general secretary Mike Tembo on Wednesday said they realised that the Flames-induced break and lack of harmony among some players contributed to the TNM Super League defeats.

“There were also reports of players sneaking out of camp, drinking and some tactical lapses characterised by failure to make substitutions. Some players were not ticking yet they were left to play for 90 minutes despite having on the bench equally good players such Dave Moya, Chikondi Likwemba and Blessings Tembo,” Tembo observed.

There are no fresh targets for the Franco Ndawa-led coaching panel, but the Bankers will bounce back, Tembo said.

“There were no disciplinary measures against the misbehaving players. Some of the offences were committed three weeks ago and it is difficult to summon someone now. We have just put measures to ensure that does not happen again,” he said.

Following the meeting with coaches, Silver chairperson McDonald Mafuta-Mwale shared Tembo’s observation. Mafuta-Mwale attributed the team’s poor showing to idleness since losing the Presidential Cup to Mafco three weeks ago.

“It was a fruitful meeting. To go two games without a win is unacceptable for a team such as Silver. Of course, we have been struggling with scoring, but we hope to turn the corner,” Silver assistant coach Hellings Mwakasungula said when commenting on the meeting.

The league defending champions lie 10th on nine points and face Blantyre United tomorrow and Epac next Wednesday.
