Silver out to avenge FDH Cup defeat against Eagles
Silver Strikers have vowed to avenge their 2024 FDH Bank Cup loss to holders Blue Eagles in this afternoon’s quarter-final clash at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Central Bankers have bitter memories of last year’s Round-of-16 Lilongwe derby when Eagles booted them out 5-3 on post-match penalties after regulation time ended goalless.
Silver were then considered favourites as they were chasing the TNM Super League title while Malawi Police Service team was playing in the second-tier league.

Buoyed by their recent progress to the second preliminary round in the CAF Champions League, Silver coach Peter Mgangira yesterday said they will ride on the momentum in the FDH Bank Cup last-eight battle.
“Our defeat last year was very painful and we will use it as a motivation to revenge,” he said.
“We are geared to make amends. It will be tough, but we are determined.”
On the other hand, Eagles coach DeKlerk Msakakuona yesterday said they are aware that the Bankers are no pushovers and are a big threat to their cup defence campaign.
“Silver Strikers are a very difficult team to beat, but we are in this competition to win and we are ready for battle,” he said.
The other three quarter-final matches are expected to be played later this month.
Civil Service United will host Mchinji Villa FC at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on October 15. FCB Nyasa Bullets will be up against Kamuzu Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on October 18 whereas Creck Sporting Club will entertain Mighty Wanderers at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji on October 19.
Silver and Eagles are hunting for their second FDH Bank Cup honours each. Silver were the inaugural champions in 2021 while Eagles won it last year. Bullets have won it twice in 2022 and 2023.
