‘Sir’ Patricks’ ‘Ndife Ana Anu’ banned on MBC?

Musician ‘Sir’ Patricks claims that his latest single Ndife Ana Anu is no longer being aired on taxpayer-funded Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) for reasons he says he does not understand.
The artist said when he initially handed over his music and video to MBC, it was being played but suddenly he noticed that the song was no longer being aired.

Worried: ‘Sir’ Patricks

“I have not been given any explanation. I guess I cannot force them to play my music but it is disheartening because when I wrote the song, I had a lot of love for my country.
“It is a prayer, asking God for his intervention in the face of the challenges that Malawians are facing. I do not understand if I said anything wrong in the song,” said ‘Sir’ Patricks.
Part of the song’s lyrics goes;
“Chuma chathu ngati dziko mchofowoka…
Anthu ambiri mdziko langa ngaumphawi.”
Meanwhile, The Nation has seen communication from MBC chief producer scheduling Wallstone Sangala addressed to controller of engineering and controller of programmes dated January 8 2018 on the issue.
In the memorandum titled ‘Airing of unauthorised material,’ Sangala says it has been noted that there is a rapid escalation of airing of a song by ‘Sir’ Patricks titled Ndife Ana Anu.
“The above mentioned office would like to inform your office that at the moment, the library had not received and processed the concerned song for broadcast on our network. The office was, therefore, surprised to note that the song found its way on our airwaves,” reads part of the memorandum.
But MBC director general Aubrey Sumbuleta, through the institution’s public relations manager Chembezi Mhone, said MBC did not receive the song from the artist. Therefore, as an institution they cannot comment on the matter, she said.
In the past, musician and politician Lucius Banda complained that his music had been banned on the national broadcaster for being deemed too critical of government. 
