Vice-President Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC) has donated football equipment to Nkhata Bay-based Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Premier League side Chintheche United FC.

The gesture is a fulfilment of the promise Chilima made to the team during the  June 23 fresh presidential election campaign.

The equipment includes two sets of uniform, socks and 25 footballs.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Chintheche United team manager Wilson Ngwira said the donation will motivate his players.

He said: “We are grateful to the Vice-President for fulfilling his pledge. As a club, we will ensure that the donation is used properly.”

Ngwira also appealed to other well-wishers to assist the club.

On his part, NRFA general secretary Masiya Nyasulu commended Chilima for the donation.

Has fulfilled his pledge: Chilima

“As an association, we are happy to hear that the Vice-President has fulfilled his pledge as you are aware that many teams lack such materials,” he said.

Chintheche United finished fourth last season in the Simso Premier League.

When contacted, the Vice-President’s press officer Pilirani Phiri referred the matter to UTM secretary general Patricia Kaliati.

Kaliati, who is also the Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Community Development, applauded the Vice-President for fulfilling the pledge.

“This just shows that we will fulfil what we promised during the campaign. The Vice-President has just proved that,” she said.
