Songwe Border to remain intact despite relegation
Songwe Border United officials say the team will remain intact despite confirmed relegation from the elite TNM Super League with the 3-0 defeat to Mzuzu City Hammers at the Karonga Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Karonga-based outfit are stuck at the bottom with six points and cannot extract themselves from the relegation zone even if they win their remaining matches.
Mzuzu City Hammers’ victory on the other hand, has strengthened their hopes of surviving relegation in the top flight league.

The Ndenga Boys have become the first team to be officially relegated from the league with five games to spare.
Songwe Border general secretary Palisha Wongani Swira said despite being relegated they will not disband as is the case with most teams that face the chop in the top flight league.
He said: “We will go back to the drawing board to look on how best we can resolve the challenges that have failed us.
“Otherwise, the team will be intact and securing a sponsor will be priority because that was the major reason that led us not to perform well.”
Swira indicated that they are set to play in the NBS Bank National Division League next season in a bid to return to the Super League in 2027.
Songwe was promoted into the league last year after finishing top of the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Premier League.
However, they failed to contain the heat in the Super League as they have just managed one win and three draws in 25 games.
They have conceded 59 goals and scored just nine.
NRFA general secretary Lupakisho Simwela expressed disappointment at Songwe Border’s relegation.
“It’s sad that Songwe Border is out. Our expectation was that the team should stay in the top flight league..
“We urge the team to remain focused and do everything possible to return to the top flight league,” he said.
