Sozobal kick-off shifted to April

Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) has shifted the kick-off of the 2013 season from this weekend to the end of April.

Sozobal chairperson Hamlet Kamtengeni told The Nation last weekend that the extension aims at giving a chance to four college teams, Poly Bobcats, Chanco Hawks, CoM Lumbricals and Catholic University to assemble their squads.

“We have realised that college students will be back to their campuses in April. Now, considering that college teams form an integral part of the league, we have decided to shift the kick-off dates,” said Kamtengeni.

However, he said, for the seventh year running, the league is expected to start without corporate sponsorship.

“Almost all the companies we approached for sponsorship said they cannot afford to bankroll our league because of financial problems. Of course, others have made promises, but we cannot rely on that unless they put pen to paper,” he said.

Bricks are the league’s defending champions.
