The country’s oldest football league, the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL), finally returns to action this weekend after weeks of delays.

Earlier in the week, SRFL vice-general secretary Kingsley Simbeye said eight teams had registered for the Premier Division and Division One.

And yesterday, Simbeye released fixtures for seven games with more teams expected to register by close of business this week.

In the fixtures, last season’s Premier Division runners-up Chikhwawa United travel to the Kamuzu Stadium for a meeting with rookies Green Hawks.

On the same day, Alex Masanjala’s Escom United will have a feel of life in the second-tier league when they entertain Polytechnic at BAT Ground.

Prison United has football issues to sort out with Changalume at Prison Ground in Zomba.

On Sunday, Polytechnic then host Hawks at BAT Ground with newcomers Ndirande Icons receiving Cobbe Barracks’ tough test at the Blantyre giant arena.
