St James CCAP Church Golf Tournament raised more than the expected target of K2 million at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) on Friday.

According to church’s fund-raising committee chairperson Frank Jomo, they are excited that the event, which received support from 35 corporate companies, has raised over K2 million. The money collected will go towards the construction of under-five clinic, high school and multipurpose hall, which will cost the church K400 million.

A team of AXA Bus Service, comprising Tony Chiwaya and Don Chokazinga, outclassed a field of 28 contesting teams to win the competition with 44 points. JB Suzi & Company (John B. Susi and Sophie Kaira) took the second position with 43 points while JJ Construction (Edwin Chipala and Hudson Kamtwanje) finished third with 42 points.

“We are appreciative to the companies that have helped us raise this amount of money. We are very thankful,” Jomo said.

On his part, the church’s session clerk Michael Uko said the event marked the beginning of more fundraising activities for their ambitious project that started and stalled nine years ago due to lack of funds.

“This tournament is of great significance to the completion of our project which will benefit the less privileged people in and around our premises in Zingwangwa Township. We have planned more fundraising events to achieve our goal,” he said.
