Season II of schools Spell Master Competition continues to attract support with Standard Bank being the new sponsor to join A1 Biscuits, Bongo Worldwide and Chloride Batteries.

According to a press release made available to The Nation on Friday, Standard Bank has partnered Spell Master Competition to sponsor judges and support the prizes for winning individuals and schools.

Founder and director of Spell Master Competition, Lewis Mbaula, said Standard Bank’s support has added value to the competition.

He said the bank has also come at the right time when they were struggling to source support for the judges.

“Last year, we faced problems because we had no sponsors for judges. We are pleading with other companies to emulate what Standard Bank and other companies have done.

“Everyone talks about development, but if we do not invest in educational programmes such as Spell Master, we can as well forget about development. It is educated citizens that contribute to the development of a country,” he said.

Meanwhile, organisers of the competition have announced that the contest will start on November 10 2013 at St Patrick’s International Academy.

Mbaula said the change was made to allow some schools that got the information late to register and have at least two weeks of preparations. Registration closes on November 1.

Spell Master Competition, which is made up of junior and senior categories, started last year with only selected schools in Blantyre participating.

This year, the competition extends to the Central Region.

The winner in the junior category stands a chance to win two trophies, an individual one and one for the school, from Standard Bank.

Chloride batteries will decorate the winner in the junior category with a cool K100 000 and some text books whereas the senior category winner will pocket K200 000 from A1 Biscuits and a laptop from BR Computers.

Both champions will also select two schools of their choice to be painted by Happy Classrooms, a BoNGo Worldwide project.

Novahiwa Phodogoma and Bedir Primary School are defending champions of the junior category whereas Sami Sequiera and South End High School are senior category defending champions.
