Stephanos Foundation on Friday handed over a four-classroom block and an office block worth K22 million to Khombwe Primary School at Chileka in Blantyre Rural West Constituency.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Stephanos Foundation executive director Clifford Kuyokwa said they embarked on the project after conducting a needs assessment in the area.

“We are doing so many projects, from education to agriculture. But in Khombwe, we are looking specifically at education where we have built a four-classroom block with a head teacher’s office in the middle so that we can help the community,” he said.

Member of Parliament for the area, Peter Kumpalume, commended Stephanos Foundation for the donation, emphasising that lack of classrooms in the area is a big challenge.

“With the money that is available, we cannot develop the whole area by just relying on government alone. We need players on the ground that can assist with most of the developmental projects which will in turn help uplift our communities,” said Kumpalume.

Blantyre district commissioner Bennet Nkasala said there are serious challenges facing the council in as far as education service delivery is concerned. n
