Blantyre United principal striker Sparrow Msowoya believes the TNM Super League genuine championship contender is yet to appear on the horizon despite that Red Lions still lead.

“Let us wait and see. As of now, it is unpredictable. If we talk about Red Lions, they always lead like this, but at the end of the day, you won’t even see them in the top five. I believe real champions are coming,” said Msowoya.

Lions lead two points clear on 37 points from 21 games after a 1-1 draw with Mighty Wanderers in Zomba on Saturday.

After weekend games, there were some changes with Big Bullets climbing to second position on 35 points, pushing down to third Kamuzu Barracks (34 points), who in turn replaced the now fourth-positioned Blue Eagles (34 points).

Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers also remain in the title hunt.

After the draw in Zomba, ranked fifth on 33 points from 20 games, Nomads finally won the following day, beating second-from-the bottom rookies Mponela United 1-0 through Victor Mpinganjira’s goal in an ill-tempered match at Balaka Stadium.

At Kamuzu Stadium, Bullets saw off Evirom 2-0 from Diverson Mlozi’s brace on Saturday. Even seventh-placed Silver Strikers cannot be ruled out of the title defence despite that their indifferent run continued with a 1-0 win over rivals Civo United on Saturday. Mafco beat Silver by a similar margin on Sunday.

The Bankers have 32 points from 20 games whereas Civo remain 12th on 20 points from 22 games. Blantyre United are 11th on 24 points from 22 games and Azam Tigers ninth on 31 points in 21 games after beating Epac 2-1 and 1-0 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

At Mzuzu Stadium, KB lost 3-0 to rampant Moyale Barracks who scored through Deus Nkutu’s double and Crispin Fikizi’s goal, but recovered to defeat Mzuzu United 4-1 on Sunday.

Wonderful Timeo, Weld Nkuliwa, Joel Chipofya and Ben Hojani delivered the goods for KB.

Ishmael Thindwa of Epac leads the Golden Boot race on 12 goals.
