Sulom president endorses Haiya
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president Gilbert Mittawa has endorsed his Football Association of Malawi (FAM) counterpart Fleetwood Haiya for a second term.
FAM is expected to go to the polls in December next year when its current executive committee’s tenure expires.

In an interview yesterday Mittawa said he has thrown his weight behind Haiya based on his achievements during the two and a half years that he has been in office.
He said: “He has achieved way beyond expectations within two years [and] I can’t see anyone who can run football better than him.
“It is only proper that he should continue with the transformation agenda which we laid out together.”
But Mittawa said his endorsement does not reflect the views of Sulom.
He said: “As Sulom, we have not sat down to discuss the matter because there are many factors that we need to consider.
“One of which is that we will have our elections early next year [before the FAM poss]. So, our focus is to look at other areas such as the constitution and that people that may want to stand should align themselves.”
Mittawa, who announced that he will not contest for Sulom presidency, also thanked affiliates that have so far endorsed Haiya.
Reacting to Mittawa’s stand in an interview yesterday, Haiya said: “I am sincerely grateful to Brigafie General Mittawa for his confidence and endorsement.
“I remain humbled by the support and will continue focusing on serving Malawian football with integrity, unity and commitment. Ultimately, the decision rests with the delegates and I respect that democratic process.”
Five affiliates, namely the four refional associations and Beach Soccer have endorsed Haiya’s second term bid.
