Sulom questions Jomo’s reinstatement

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has said flamboyant Big Bullets supporter Isaac Jomo Osman cannot be reinstated as he is still serving a ban imposed by the flagship football league governing body last season.

Osman was slapped with a one-year ban by Sulom after being found guilty of taking part in the violence that occurred during a first-round Super League game against Epac FC in Lilongwe.

According to a letter from Sulom dated March 7 2015, signed by general secretary Williams Banda addressed to Bullets’ board of trustees, which The Nation has seen, Osman cannot resume his duties based on the suspension.

Sulom also claims that Bullets’ executive committee needs to confirm Osman’s reinstatement in writing.

“Further to your letter on [Jomo’s] reinstatement, our legal advisor has advised us that legally you need to let the executive sign the letter for Sulom to write  Fam.

“For [the] record, I recall that it was Sulom that suspended [him] therefore we are responsible for reinstating,” reads part of the letter.

It further adds: “Kindly we request your executive committee to sign the letter and send it to Sulom.”

The decision to reinstate Osman and Mabvuto Chibambo as main supporters committee chairperson and general secretary respectively was made by the trustees, but it was challenged by part of the executive committee, further worsening the chaotic situation in the People’s Team camp.

The flamboyant Osman stepped down voluntarily last year while Chibambo was suspended indefinitely following disagreements with the KondiMsungama-led executive committee.

Trustees chairperson James Busile justified Jomo’s reinstatement.

He also queried that Osman’s ban has nothing to do with his reinstatement, saying he was banned from football venues and not the club’s activities.

However, Msungama yesterday challenged the trustees decision, particularly on Osman, describing it as unprocedural saying there are issues that the trustees need to clarify.

“The process was done without consulting the executive board and it should also be recalled that when Jomo voluntarily stepped down, it was the same trustees who endorsed Stone Mwamadi to take over. Now what becomes of Mwamadi? Those are the questions the trustees need to answer before we accept their decision,” queried Msungama.
