Sulom has said the first-round of the TNM Super League will end on September 15.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) general secretary Williams Banda said they had to review the fixtures because of the national team’s trip to Botswana as well as the abandonment of the Carlsberg Cup quarter-final match between Evirom and Red Lions.

“You may also recall that as a league we were bereaved following the death of three Mafco players in a  road accident.

“The initial plan was to finish the first-round on Sunday [September 1], but we could not due to all these unforeseen circumstances.

“But we are now hopeful that unless something crops up, we should wind up probably on September 15,” said Banda.

He also said the league will be very strict when the transfer window reopens following the confusion that characterised the transfers at the start of the season.

“We will not compromise on the issue of transfers. Transfer issues will have to be handled professionally and we will ensure total adherence to transfer rules and regulations.

“We also want to ensure that proper payment procedures are followed,” said Banda.

Some of the players that were involved in transfer wrangles include  Kondwani Kumwenda, Timothy Chitedze [Azam Tigers to Mighty Wanderers],  Tony Chitsulo [from Silver Strikers to Wanderers]  Chimango Kayira who wanted to move from Big Bullets to Silver Strikers and John Lanjesi who wanted to switch to Silver from Civo United.

Eventually, Silver instituted legal proceedings against the Nomads over Chitsulo’s move and the issue is still in court.
