Local hotel chain Sunbird Tourism Limited, at the weekend awarded hardworking and long serving employees with monetary prizes.

The employees were also treated to a sports galore weekend with the champions walking away with different monetary prizes apart from trophies.

Sunbird Tourism chief executive officer Roger Gardner said: “It is important to bring all our hotels together and enjoy a good fellowship. It’s part of investing in staff welfare. In fact, we wish we could have done more. We therefore, thought of honouring our longest serving employees, who have been with us from five to 35 years and beyond.

“In the same vein, we awarded employees and supervisors of the year 2013 from all our seven hotels and resorts. We also thought of holding sports games, just to say thank you to our employees who have and continue to be the warm heart of Sunbird.”

The company’s group executive housekeeper Emily Mkandawire, was awarded as the longest serving employee having worked with Sunbird for 37 years.

“I love my job and that is the more reason why I have been at this institution for 37 years. Again, motivation is always morale for employees,” said Mkandawire who has been awarded with a K90 000 Game Store Shopping voucher.
