Super League of Malawi (Sulom) will bring down the curtain on the 2018 season on Christmas Eve with a crowning match between champions Nyasa Big Bullets and Civil Sporting Club.

The top-flight football league runners’ treasurer Tiya Somba-Banda said the agreement with the sponsors, TNM plc, is that the season should end on that date “to give the players, officials and supporters a chance to celebrate Christmas with their families”.

On his part, TNM public relations and sponsorship manager Limbani Nsapato said: “We should get the 2018 season over and done with on Monday [December 24], that is the arrangement.”
As for the prize presentation ceremony, Nsapato said it will be held after mid-January.

“That is when we should be finalising everything,” he said.
Nsapato described the 2018 season as exciting and captivating.
“It has been exciting in the sense that we have seen newcomers—TN Stars and Karonga United—standing the heat and surviving relegation, while at the same time, we have seen big teams—Red lions and Mafco being relegated.

“This is a testimony of how tight the league was. In addition to that, until Saturday we had about six or seven teams that were still not safe from relegation,” he said.

Nsapato also said while the battle for the title did not go down to the wire after Bullets sealed it with two games to spare, it was also close.

“The past immediate champions [Be Forward Wanderers] kept the pressure on their rivals which added to the excitement.”
He also saluted the People’s Team for winning the title, saying: “They really displayed a strong character.” n
