Italy-based Malawian women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga on Sunday scored her 13th goal in the Women’s Serie A as her club Inter Milan thumped Sassuolo 3-0.

The Scorchers captain still sits pretty at the pinnacle of the scorers’ chart and breathing down her neck is Juventus’ Cristina Girelli with 11 goals.

Scored in added time: Tabitha

Roma’s Giacinta Valentina and Tabitha’s team-mate Ellisa Polli are also tied on 11 goals.

Despite the victory, Inter remain fourth in the 10-team Italian women’s top-flight league with 32 points from 16 matches, 10 points behind leaders Roma.

Juventus are second with 34 points. They are tied on points with third-placed Fiorentina who, however, have an inferior goal difference.

Inter scored all the three goals in the second half with Ajara Nchout opening the score sheet in the 54th minute before Ghoutia Karchouni doubled the lead seven minutes later.

Tabitha sealed the win in the second minute of added time with a beauty.

After receiving a pass from Tatiana Bonetti in Sassuolo’s goal area, she fooled her marker with a dummy that sent her in the wrong direction before slotting the ball on the far post.

In an interview yesterday, the 26-year-old said she is happy to keep the goals flowing.

“We are winning and I’m scoring, that’s what matters most. I will keep on working hard,” she said.
