Teacher, student affair in Presidential Cup semis

When Silver Strikers take on Red Lions in a Presidential Cup semi-final match at Dedza Stadium tomorrow, it will be a special occasion for the two coaches.

The Bankers coach Franco Ndawa coached Mike Kumanga for three years [between 2005 and 2008] at Lions and now Kumanga is in charge of the Zomba-based military outfit.

Such occasions come very rarely and it will be interesting to see how the ‘master’ will fair against his former student.

“I coached Mike for three years at Red Lions and it will be interesting to face him on Saturday.

“It is a good feeling to face someone you have coached and as an upcoming coach, he will be out to prove a point. I am happy for him,” said Ndawa.

He concluded by quoting Romans 10 verse 11, which states: “As the scripture says, anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.”

On his part, Kumanga, a former Flames winger, said:

“It [feels nice] to develop and face your master at some point and it will be a wonderful feeling fighting for a final berth.”
