Unlike in the past when the association was looking for candidates with at least Pro- coaching licences, FAM now wants someone with an A coaching badge as well as a bachelor’s degree in other related fields.
Reads in part the advert: “The candidates should also have at least an A football coaching licence and a degree in sports, education, management or related field with at least five years’ experience in football development strategy models, strategic action plans and/or football structures and any other related qualifications.”
Meanwhile, Kumwenda in an interview could not state if he will apply for the job.
He said: “My contract is expiring on April 30 2025, hence the advert. If I need the job, I will apply.”
Kumwenda was appointed techn
ical director in 2022, replacing Romanian Mario Marinica, who took up the Flames coaching job following the firing of Meck Mwase.
According to Fifa handbook on the technical set-up of associations, a technical director is responsible for the strategy, development and technical development of the technical directorate as well as adviser to coaches.
The handbook further says the technical director is designated as responsible for the preparation and implementation of technical programmes at the grassroots, juvenile, and national teams, thereby preparing football coaches and footballers for the future.
