Teveta warns bogus training bodies

Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) has called on the public to guard against being duped by bogus certificate-awarding bodies in the country.

Teveta acting executive director Wilson Makulumiza-Nkhoma said this in an interview in Lilongwe on Thursday.Mzuzu_tech_college

“We realise that there is great demand for training and certification in the country. As a result, some crooks are taking advantage of this situation to trick people with bogus certificates,” he said.

Makulumiza-Nkhoma said Teveta has already brought to book some fake certificate-awarding bodies, but the public should still be on the lookout for other fake examining bodies.

He advised people to verify such institutions with Teveta as some unscrupulous ones may still be out there in the training market.

Commenting on the presence of three Tevet qualifications being offered by Trade Test, Malawi Craft and the Tevet Qualifications Framework (TQF) in the country, which has largely been cited as a major factor inhibiting quality education in training institutions, Makulumiza-Nkhoma said work to harmonising the three curricula is complete.

Currently, Teveta conducts assessment and certification for TQF, which leads to the awarding of Malawi Tevet Certificate.

The existence of various curricula taught in the training institutions created a sense of confusion among employers on how to remunerate graduates with varied qualifications.

“It is pleasing that the unification process of the Tevet certification system is almost complete,” said Makulumiza-Nkhoma.
