Surestream snub coaches

The confusion that has rocked Surestream FC camp took another twist on Saturday when players told their coaches Sherry Msuku and Abel Mkandawire not to sit on the bench at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.

Both coaches watched from the stands as Surestream beat Mzuni 2-0 to register their first win of the season.

The players, as they were dressing for the match, stunned the coaches  when Damiano Kunje and captain Levison Maganizo told them that their services were not needed.

The two players reportedly told the coaches that they did not need their input because they trained on their own elsewhere on Friday after being told to leave Surestream Stadium premises by authorities.

One of the players, who asked for anonymity, confirmed the development in an interview with The Nation yesterday, saying: “We did that to show our solidarity to our TD [technical director] Peter Mponda.”

He said following a meeting they had in Blantyre, they chose fellow players Timothy Gova and Semion Singa as stand-in coaches.

The players are also reported to have been singing songs in praise of their former TD as they travelled back to Blantyre.

Surestream’s public relations manager Linda Chiume-Gombera and administration manager Patricio Kulemeka could not be reached for comment yesterday while, Mponda once again, refused to comment.

Mponda parted ways with the team last week after Surestream management accepted his resignation. He is now embroiled in an ownership battle with the firm’s management after it emerged that the club was registered in his name.
