Renowned fashion designer Xandria recently received the Best Professional Fashion Designe rAward at the 2025Consumer Choice Awards Malawi that happened in Lilongwe.A sub-division of the Consumer Choice Awards Africa,the awards were established to recognise excellence among companies,businesses and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to consumer satisfaction.Our reporter WANTWA MWAMLIMA caught up with Xandria who explained the importance of the award. Excerpts:

Q What does recognition mean to you and how does it impact your career as fashion designer?

AIt means a lot. It’s powerful affirmation that the long hours, sleepless nights and countless moments of sacrifice have not gone unnoticed.On a personal level, it reminds me that staying true to your craft and leading with purpose always pays off. Professionally, it elevates the credibility of my Xandria and opens new doors for collaborations, both locally and internationally.

Q How do you see fashion being perceived valued? Do you think this award reflects a shift in attitudes?

A believe that there’s growing appreciation for fashion, not just as art,but a serious economic driver and tool for cultural expression.This award reflects a shift in how the industry is being valued. We are moving beyond aesthetics and starting to celebrate innovation, professionalism and impact within the local this a brand and a continuing to push boundaries with adaptive fashion and inclusive design. It’s alsoa chance to builds trategic partnerships and inspire the next generation ofdesigners.

Q What are some of your personal initiatives that have contributed to this recognition?

A One of the key initiatives has been my commitment to excellence in every stitch, every detail and every client fashion industry. It’s exciting to see fashion being taken more seriously in spaces where it was once over looked. It is a big step for ward for all of the fashion designers who have chosen to pursue fashion in the country.

QHow do you plan to leverage this recognition to further your career and brand?

0AI plan to use this recognition as a launchpad to expan dmy reach, amplify my voice and scale the Xandria brand even further. This will include tapping into international markets, elevating our ready-to-wear lines, but also

interaction. Beyond that, my work with All Shades of Beautiful has allowed me to champion diversity and inclusivity in fashion by empowering designers with and without disabilities. I also make it a point to create fashion that speaks with meaning, heritage and heart. So I believe that these played a big role for this recognition.

Q What message do youhave for other players inthe fashion industry?AStay rooted in purpose.Fashion isn’t just abouttrends, but also impact.We all have a role to play in shapingthe narrative of African fashion.Whether you’re just starting outor have been in the game foryears, don’t be afraid to innovate,collaborate and challenge thestatus quo. Your unique voice andvision matter.

Q Looking ahead, how do you look at the future of fashion and collaboration with the corporate world?

AIt paves the way for deeper partnerships between the creative and corporate sectors. Fashion has the power to boost economies, shape culture and drive social change and when business leaders beg into see that, we can create real,sustainable impact. I envision a future where fashion is not only celebrated but also invested in as a force for innovation, identity and inclusion. Locally I’m hoping for an industry that is promoted and supported by everyone.
